History

I began learning violin in 1959 at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT, now part of the University of Hartford. In 1965 I joined the Manchester Symphony Orchestra (Manchester CT) and was a member of the violin section until 1969. During this time I also became proficient on viola, performing in various school and community events.

At Indiana University, I studied violin and harp.

After relocating to the Boston area, I played in the Brookline Symphony for over a decade, first playing violin and viola as needed. In 1991 I began studying cello, and from then on played cello in the Brookline Symphony. I also played cello in the MIT Summer Philharmonic for several years.

Recent teachers have been Jan Pfeiffer and Beth Pearson (cello) and Marsten Parker (violin).

Since 2004 I have been teaching via the Suzuki method, and have completed Suzuki training through Book 4 (violin) and Book 2 (cello). I am a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the American String Teachers Association, and am currently working on Kodaly certification.

For the last three years, another teacher and I have been holding an annual recital at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall in the late spring or early summer. The next one will be listed on the Events page as the time approaches.
